Spring wedding at The Allan House in Austin, Texas

I absolutely love when clients want a laid-back wedding focus on family! Megan and Jimmy fell in love with their venue, The Allan House, right away. Megan grew up in Austin, and always knew she wanted to have her wedding in her hometown. As they searched for venues, they wanted a large outdoor space, but close to downtown Austin. They fell in love with The Allan house after their first visit! They were drawn to the historic home and stunning gardens that make you forget you are in the middle of the city of Austin. The couple loved working with Julianna, the manager for The Allan House. She made sure to answer all of their questions and give them the peace of mind that this was the perfect fit.

When planning, their number 1 rule was to create a relaxing and fun environment for their guests, and themselves! That went into every decision they made. From choosing to do a first look so they could have a private moment together. To taking the time to talk to guests at the cocktail hour. They also decided to do a cocktail hour the night before the wedding day, so that they could show guests a piece of Austin. It also let them have a real conversation with each guest. Their wedding planner, Kristi Treadwell, Joyful Details, was a huge part of making sure their wedding day was as relaxing as possible. She made sure the day ran smoothly!

A Wedding In Her Hometown

This sweet couple met during class during their Freshman year of college. Megan thought Jimmy was incredibly sweet and charming, but he also was the guy who would eat weird things to impress girls. After several years their timing eventually worked out and Megan called in the help of their mutual friends to get invited to the same Game of Thrones watch parties, study groups, etc., to make it obvious to Jimmy that she was interested. He was never very good at picking up subtle hints.

Eventually, they went on their first date, just in time to graduate. They spent the next six years with lots of adventures! Like living in Miami, the Florida Keys, Boston, California, and North Carolina! In fact, I got to capture their engagement session in Monterey, California! Since they have spent so many years moving around, they knew their wedding day was all about re-connecting with their guests and family.

Advice For Planning an Austin Wedding

Their advice for couples planning their Austin wedding? Enjoy this time! As Megan told me, “Your wedding day will be a blur, so enjoy every stage of the process that gets you to that day and respect which traditions are important to your family – make compromises when needed! Second off: Get a bomb Photographer! We can relate to how daunting the expenses feel when you’re planning a big event, but it is truly the best investment you’ll make. Make space in your budget for a photographer that makes you look good, but also makes you comfortable in front of the lens of a camera. You’d be shocked by how few details you remember from your wedding day. Having an amazing photographer, like Adam, photograph your wedding truly preserves and enhances those memories.” It was so much fun photographing Megan and Jimmy’s wedding day, and I would love to connect with you, and photograph your day!
