Erin and Ben met on Bumble, and Erin swiping on Ben was actually an accident! She says Ben didn’t have a great profile, so she meant to swipe left, but actually ended up going in the opposite direction. They ended up matching, and once they started talking, Erin realized Ben was much cooler than his profile. They had a stressful early relationship because Ben went on a nine-month deployment after they’d been dating for three months. But they knew early on that this was for real, and they made it through. Luckily for me, Erin is bad at swiping, so I had the chance to shoot their 1102 East wedding!
1102 East Wedding
1102 East is an amazing venue located in Austin. It has an amazing garden that includes old pecan and native elm trees. There’s also this adorable bungalow that can be used for small dinners or as a getting-ready space! Erin and Ben say they were pretty much set on the venue before they were even officially engaged! Erin loved all the greenery and flowers as well as the unique touches that the venue already had in place. It meant that they didn’t need to buy a bunch of decorations because it was pretty much already perfectly decorated! Plus, it was close to downtown, which Erin and Ben loved for their out-of-town guests!
Memorable Moments
Erin and Ben’s inspiration for their 1102 East wedding was basically creating a big celebration that would allow them to spend time with their family and friends. They skipped the more formal portions of a wedding because they wanted a more relaxed, intimate feeling. Erin said it was so amazing to look out over the venue to see all the different groups of people brought together by her bad swiping skills. Her top moments for the day, however, came from the ceremony. Both Erin and Ben had to work so hard to not cry during the ceremony, and then they had to try so hard not to laugh too much during the ceremony. Overall, Erin says, “just spending time with all our friends and family and their crazy antics made it all perfect.”
It was so wonderful to be able to shoot Erin and Ben’s fun 1102 East wedding and all of their guests’ “crazy antics!” I love working with casual couples who want those unique touches for their wedding day.
